What you'll find here
Gozendani lies on the north side of the three peaks, where the valleys from Ichinomine, Ninomine and Sannomine come together. That makes it the place to pray to all three at once.
It is said that buildings for preparing food offerings once stood here, and that offerings were carried up to the three peaks from this spot.
The January mountain rite
Every year on 5 January, the shrine holds the mountain rite of the Ōyama-sai festival here. Sake in old-style earthenware is offered on a flat sacred stone about 1 m across, and the priests then set off to visit the sacred sites of the mountain. Earlier that morning, straw ropes are hung around the sacred sites.
